Fledglings News March 2024

We close Thursday 28th March at 6pm and re-open at 7:45am on Tuesday 2nd April.  We are closed on all bank holidays… Mondays 6th and 27th May, 26th August.
Stay and Play – Dates have all been added to the calendar on Famly and invitations sent to all children depending on which day they attend.  As mentioned, if there is a lot of interest, then we will split the session into two on the day and have 4-4:45 and 5-5:45.  This will be decided nearer the time.  We look forward to welcoming you.  MENU – We often review the menu between summer and winter and when different children start with varying dietary requirements.  We are currently updating the menu and will publish it on Famly as soon as it’s been finalised.
A couple of reminders if we may…

  • Young children are welcome to bring comforters to nursery if they are required when they are sleeping.  However, please do not allow children to bring other toys /dolls /jewellery /teddies /etc etc to nursery as they get very upset if they get mislaid.  Some smaller objects also pose a choking hazard to other children.  If they have recently had their birthday and wish to show their new book or similar, please send a photo on Famly and we will happily share it with their friends.
  • Please provide a pair of named wellies for your child to play outside.  Send a message via Famly to your child’s room if you’d ever like us to check which size is here for them.
  • Please send messages to your child’s room, rather than individual staff members, this ensures if said member of staff is off then it will be seen by someone else in the room.  If you need to ask regarding fees/ extra days/ notice period/ funding /etc., then this should be directed to Jo/Jane.
  • If you have received a reminder to sign a new permission on Famly, please could you ensure to sign it, or send us a message if you are unclear about any of them.
Preschool leaver’s trip – Monday 1st July.  There is an invitation on Famly for the children leaving to go to school for a trip on a coach to Nixons Farm.  Exciting!!!  Please ensure to accept the invitation so we know how many children are coming.  We will also put a permission for you to sign nearer the time.

Our ‘policy of the month’ this month is ‘Our Curriculum’ At Fledglings, we use the EYFS – ‘development matters’ document for reference. Intent: To nurture and enrich EACH individual child through playful learning experiences in a warm, safe, magical, exciting and caring setting utilising the EYFS – Development Matters Document.  Particular focus on language development (ELKAN).  Implementation: • Loving and caring • Learning through play • Understanding how children develop and learn using professional knowledge and practitioner expertise • The child – their individual stage of development and interests. A balance of child initiated and direct adult teaching. • Covering the seven educational programmes (EYFS) • Curriculum Variety including many opportunities such as annual themes, topics, cultural celebrations, special days and most importantly children’s interest. Impact: In turn, at Fledglings, we develop happy, kind, confident, all rounded children who are willing to learn and LOVE to learn.

At Fledglings, we make regular assessments of children’s learning and we use this information to ensure that future planning reflects identified needs, interests and next steps; this is shared with parent/carers.  Assessment in the EYFS takes the form of observation and this involves the keyworker and other adults as appropriate.  The observations are recorded in the child’s learning journey on Famly which also contains information provided by parent/carers and other settings.

Two Year checks and Wellcomm assessments are completed in liaison with parent/carer and health visitors.  End of year assessments are completed prior to children starting school and shared with the respective Reception teachers.

We hope your child enjoys their Easter treat and everyone has a lovely long weekend if you’ve got time off work… As the weather hopefully will start to improve, it’s a good time to send home the children’s change of clothes bags so you can check and refill with weather appropriate clothing and underwear.  Please remember that all clothing, including coats and shoes need to be named.  Any queries, feedback or suggestions, please feel free to message the management team.
